Champions for Children Gala
The Tennis Champions for Children
event, held on July 15, 2009, at the new Sportime at Randall's Island Tennis Center featured a World Team Tennis match between the New York Sportimes lead by John McEnroe vs. the Boston Lobsters with Martina Navratilova.
RISF Trustee and Benefit Chair Tori Dauphinot welcomed guests and presented honorary awards to Chris Lacopo, Tennis Coach at the Horace Mann School, and Ken Solomon, Chair and CEO of The Tennis Channel.
John McEnroe presented a posthumous award to his friend Gene Scott, accepted by his wife Polly. Gene was an influential tennis entrepreneur and well-known tennis player. Martina Navratilova then presented an award to Billie Jean King. Children from Union Settlement participated in the program.
